I hope that everyone had a wonderful long weekend. Today is Columbus Day and this week we will be learning all about Christopher Columbus and his founding of America. This Friday we will be having a math test on adding on, using a number line, and doubles. We will also be having a spelling test on words ending in –s, -es, -ed, and –ing. These words are more difficult than previous weeks so make sure you study, study, study!!!

The United States Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 and on Monday our class celebrated the birthday of our country’s government. We looked at pictures of the U.S. Constitution and discussed how the rules listed in it are quite similar to our classroom rules. We created a list of rules that the students of our class should follow and we wrote our own classroom Constitution. Our Constitution was signed by the students just like the 39 delegates did 220 years ago and we posted it in the hallway with our self-portraits surrounding it. For the remainder of the week, we will be studying the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the symbols that represent the U.S., such as the bald eagle, the Liberty Bell, and Uncle Sam.

Hello all and welcome to our class blog! The purpose of this blog is to keep parents informed of what we are doing in first grade and share pictures of work completed by our students.
This is my first year as a teacher. I graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2007 and was thrilled to begin my teaching career at the same elementary school that I went to as a child. I have lived in Childersburg all of my life, with the exception of living in Tuscaloosa during college. I have one cat, Kramer, and I enjoy watching movies and listening to all types of music. I am so excited about this school year and the things we will be learning. I know that we will have fun during our time together.
